oilrig-articleIn 2015 I was at the centre of a project to communicate the fact that many major oil and gas producers want governments to take more action on climate change, particularly by putting a price on carbon emissions. They also want to be part of the solution, for example by providing gas as a cleaner alternative to coal as well as promoting energy efficient products and running renewable energy businesses.

Instead of simply producing a standard press release or statement as had originally been planned, I led on the drafting of an open letter to the UN, signed by all six CEOs, as well as letters for the ‘Letters to the Editor’ pages in leading newspapers in the UK, France, Italy and several other countries. This turned the intervention into a very high-profile news story – the front page lead in the FT and elsewhere – with more than 1,000 follow-up articles worldwide, as well as substantial coverage on social media platforms.
